Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, 11-15 February 2010
The Training Workshop on Preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage : Traditional Dance Patterns was held in Nay Ptyi Taw, Myanmar, on 11-15 February 2010.
The Workshop was convened to bring together traditional dance experts from each ASEAN Member State to develop ideas, share strategies and experiences for the systematic preservation of traditional dances in the ASEAN region, particularly in dance patterns. The Workshop produced basic patterns of traditional dances from the ASEAN region, using drawing patterns and photographs as visual aids for trainers to teach traditional dances to the people.
Each of the participants gave a presentation, describing the history and background of their respective dances along with their thoughts, ideas and wishes in their effort to protect and preserve the dance heritage in their country.
After each presentation, the participant would teach and dance together with other participants. It was an opportunity for the participants to learn and experience first hand the dance movements of fellow dance masters from other countries. The session also helped to build mutual understanding and closer ties among the participants.
