ASEAN Youth Camp 2010 Hanoi, Viet Nam, 23-29 April 2010 Fifty five young creative talents from ten ASEAN Member States and China gathered in Ha Noi from 23 -29 April 2010 to participate in this year's ASEAN Youth Camp. Through the seven-day workshop, the youths got to learn about one another's culture and history through the arts, to share their experiences and build friendship and understanding. The camp was held under the theme "Dragon: Legend in ASEAN Culture" to mark the 1,000th founding anniversary of Ha Noi - also known as Thang long, the City of the Ascending Dragon - and Viet Nam's Chairmanship of ASEAN this year. During their stay in Ha Noi, the youths took part in various workshops focusing on dance, music, visual arts, photo journalism and pottery. These workshops were led by professional instructors to help the participants further harness their talents. Other activities included a charity programme for orphans and a boat trip across Ha Long Bay. The ASEAN Youth Camp is one of the key projects of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (ASEAN-COCI). It began as the ASEAN Youth Friend Programme with the aim of building a stronger regional identity by raising awareness of Southeast Asia's history and heritage through the arts. This original intention remained when ASEAN-COCI renamed the programme as the ASEAN Youth Camp and turned it into an annual/biannual event. Over the years, the aims of the Camp have expanded to give participants a better understanding of ASEAN in general.
