ASEAN Youth Camp
The ASEAN Youth Camp started in 1998 and is held once every two years. Through various activities, youths learn about each other's culture and history, share experiences and build up friendship. It's hoped that this will help to evolve a consciousness of ASEAN culture. ASEAN Youth Camp 2008 Sixty-six youths from ten ASEAN Member States and Republic of Korea took part in the ASEAN Youth Camp 2008. With the theme "Expression of Culture towards One ASEAN Community", the 7-day youth camp was held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia from 19 to 25 February 2008. The ASEAN Youth Camp is a project by the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (COCI). The first camp was held in 1998 and is held once every two years. The ASEAN Youth Camp aims to promote among youths knowledge and understanding of ASEAN and each other's culture through interactive activities, and to build up friendship among the youths. During their stay in Yogyakarta, the youths took part in music, dance, craft, heritage and photo-journalism activities. These activities were designed to encourage artistic creativity and expression using indigenous themes and natural materials found in the environment. The youths also were treated to a visit to Borobudur, a 9th Century Buddhist monument.
